R

Most people learn R for statistics and data analysis, so it pays to learn the tidyverse early. R for Data Science by Hadley Wickham is the usual starting point, and Hands-On Programming with R suits people who have never programmed before. ModernDive and Learning Statistics with R teach statistics and R together.

Once you are comfortable with data frames and ggplot2, Advanced R explains how the language works underneath, and R Packages covers sharing your own code. Forecasting: Principles and Practice and Tidy Text Mining with R are good examples of domain-specific books. The RStudio cheat sheets are worth keeping open while you work.
